HYROX SkiErg: rules, pacing and the run after

The SkiErg is 1,000 m immediately after the opening run. It feels controlled, which is exactly why first-time racers overspend here: the goal is to establish rhythm without carrying an early breathing debt into the sleds.

Movement standards to rehearse

How to pace the station

Practise valid movement before optimizing speed. The useful target is the fastest effort you can repeat without damaging the next run. Use the HYROX race simulator to budget the running, stations and Roxzone together.

Common first-race mistakes

What it does to the running

Run two should feel like a continuation, not a restart after a maximal effort. Let cadence settle as you leave the Roxzone, then judge pace once breathing is under control. The sled push is next, so an early aerobic spike has an immediate cost.

Frequently asked questions

How far is the HYROX SkiErg?

The SkiErg distance is 1,000 m for every Singles division.

What damper setting is used for HYROX SkiErg?

The machine is preset to resistance 6 under the 2026/27 Singles rulebook. Racers may adjust it, so use a setting you have already rehearsed.

Can your feet leave the SkiErg platform in HYROX?

A dynamic or jumping motion is allowed, but the feet must land back on the base plate. A foot touching the floor triggers the station penalty protocol.
